Residency 

A. Board & lodging

Artists in Residence may apply to the Music Chapel for full-time occupancy of a studio at the Music Chapel

Financial conditions for full-time board and lodging

Deposit: 250 € (to cover any loss of goods or equipment, damage to or deterioration of the furniture, the fixtures and other equipment, other than normal wear and tear of the studio or room)

Rent: 450 € per month (includes one hot meal per day and food provided to cook)

Shuttles from and to Waterloo station organized several times a day during the week.

Full boarding students wishing to keep their reserved studios during the summer months are allowed to do so depending on availability, subject to payment for the entire three-month period.

Occasional boarding

Insofar as possible, the Music Chapel will provide occasional lodging to commuting students during specific projects (productions, master classes, courses) or concerts given by the relevant student. Bed linen and towels will be made available. Depending on availability and demand for occasional lodging, students may be asked to share a room with another student.

Participation fee: 30 € per person per night in the new building (20€ in the listed building).

B. Concerts

La Chapelle Musicale offre l’opportunité aux artistes en résidence de se produire sur scène à travers un programme complet de concerts et récitals en collaboration avec divers orchestres, festivals et salles de concert, ainsi que grâce à ses productions et co-productions. Cela permet aux jeunes artistes de se développer au contact de public différents et de s’insérer ensuite plus facilement dans le monde professionnel.

C. Instruments & Library

Upon request by the artist in residence, the Music Chapel makes available for use, free of charge, a number of outstanding violins, violas, cellos, and bows, belonging to the Music Chapel or to private benefactors.

Pianos are also available in every studios and rehearsal rooms of the Music Chapel.

The Music Chapel library provides scores on the artist’s request and can take care of the edition of manuscripts, as well as transpositions and arrangements. Eventually, archives from the Music Chapel over the history of the institution will also be accessible for consultation

D. Recordings

The Music Chapel helps the artists in residence in the making of the necessary DVDs when applying for a competition. Each artist in residence is entitled to two hours of recording as well as one extra recording session for the application video to the Queen Elisabeth Competition. 

E. Networking & Career Promotion

The Music Chapel bolsters the importance to support its students through the beginning of their career, helping them make a name for themselves. We take their professional background into consideration, highlight their strengths to project the best image of themselves to the public, and support them plan their career path in the long term. The Music Chapel also supports students to increase their promotional value using different communication channels: social media, press, radio broadcasts…

The Music Chapel helps the artists in residence to develop the best network possible. To achieve this, they are introduced to national and international artistic directors. They benefit from Chapel’s participation to enoa (European Network of Opera Academies), which allows singers to create a European network, to participate in many workshops organized by the network’s partners, and to take part in new opera productions.

 The Music Chapel also empowers its network at an international level through its Canadian Friends and American Friends branches, as well as through its partnership with the Belle-Saison, thereby offering concerts everywhere in Europe, but also in North America.

Personal Development

Aside from the musical training, the Music Chapel provides different activities and opportunities to support artists in residence’s well-being: physiotherapy, French lessons, work-out sessions, mental coaching for competitions, mindfulness and other workshops to improve focus, well-being and creativity.
