An internationally renowned organist, composer and opera director, Bernard Foccroulle led the Théâtre royal de la Monnaie from 1992 to 2007 before becoming Director of the International Festival of Lyric Art of Aix-en-Provence, a position he held until 2018.

Committed to the broadest possible participation in cultural life, Bernard Foccroulle has received numerous international distinctions. He holds honorary doctorates from several universities, including those of Montreal, Aix-Marseille and UCLouvain.

As Bernard Foccroulle observes, our world is undergoing accelerated change and is facing several simultaneous crises.

In this context, what do artistic creations reveal to us? What questions can we read in them, what utopias, what consolations, what hopes? What role can we expect art and culture to play in this deeply unsettled and unsettling period?

These are the essential questions Bernard Foccroulle will seek to address.
