Horizon with Ars Nova

& Marie-Juliette Ghazarian

20:15 Music Chapel, Haas-Teichen Studio

Theme, loops and vocalises

The original programme “Thème, boucles et vocalises” (Theme, loops and vocalises), conceived and presented by the Ars Nova ensemble and mezzo-soprano Marie-Juliette Ghazarian, is a surprising and sensitive exploration of the principles of “repetition” and “vocality” across the repertoires and eras of instrumental and vocal music.

Whether as a result of aesthetic evolution, popular inspiration or extra-musical inspiration, the thematic resurgence and repetition of a sound object has, for centuries, structured the way we listen to a musical work.

With this programme, we invite you to discover and explore – through a concert-reading format with commentary – how this poetic and formal heritage has guided, and still nourishes, the imagination of composers, from the modern era of the early 20th century to the present day. Benoît Sitzia
