Piano 2021

Queen Elisabeth Competition

Meet the artists of the Music Chapel selected for the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2021!

The Music Chapel is happy to announce the participation of three artists in residence and two associate artists in the 2021 edition of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, which is dedicated to the piano.

They are the artists in residence Daumants Liepiņš, Salih Can Gevrek and Jonathan Fournel, and the associate artists Sergei Redkin and Kaito Kobayashi.

Daumants Liepiņš (b. 1994 in Latvia) has been an artist in residence since September 2020.

Salih Can Gevrek (b. 1992 in Turkey) has been an artist in residence since September 2018. Daumants and Salih benefit from scholarships granted by generous anonymous donors.

Jonathan Fournel (b. 1994 in France) has been an artist in residence since September 2016 and holds a scholarship from the Jean-Charles Velge Fund.

Sergei Redkin (b. 1991 in Russia) was an artist in residence from 2017 to 2020 and holds a scholarship from a generous anonymous donor.

Kaito Kobayashi (b. 1993 in Japan) was an artist in residence from 2014 to 2016.

The first four pianists trained with Louis Lortie, master in residence of the piano department, and Avo Kouyoumdjian, who assists him in this role. Kaito Kobayashi perfected his skills with Maria João Pires, Louis Lortie’s predecessor. They are among the 64 candidates selected for this 2021 edition, which was postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic.

We wish them every success at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, the first round of which will take place from 3 to 8 May and will be livestreamed for the first time by the RTBF and online. The order of performance will be announced in the coming days.
