Jean Rondeau, harpsichord
Getting away from the framework, the programme, the menu. Breaking free from imposed sequences, from pieces that follow one another in slices of music, interspersed with applause and silence, with a before and after that conforms to the rules of the concert. To free oneself from the more or less arbitrary plan of an order chosen months ago, to get rid of the classical form of the recital, of the ‘and then’, of the sequence and the intermissions, of those moments of ophthalmic anxiety when listeners try to decipher from their programme the piece that is coming, so as not to be surprised, especially not to be surprised.
And to rediscover the fluidity of a stroll where you lose yourself in what is given to you, where you advance without stopping on a ridge path, where you don’t know what’s coming, where you discover at every moment the gush of the music, and that’s what makes it so beautiful. Here we find the Rondeau, Chaconne and Passacaille forms, explorations of return, repetition and ritornello. Couperin, Bach and Ligeti are all part of the promenade, but it will be a seamless tunic, a panoramic landscape. This new form of concert will offer a continuum of music between improvisation and interpretation.
Jean Rondeau invites us to let ourselves be seized by a moment of uninterrupted music, combining pieces from the repertoire and improvisations in a renewed exploration of the sound of the harpsichord each evening, like a musical and dancing performance.
