  • W. A. Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 17, in G major, KV. 453

In 1784 Mozart took a new stylistic direction in the composition of his piano concertos. He gave the orchestra renewed importance by entrusting it with a leading role while considerably developing the place given to wind instruments, which articulate the themes (whether complete or fragmented) and engage in a dialogue with the piano, imitating and echoing it.

  • J. Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 1, in C major, Hob. VIIb:1

Dedicated to the principal cellist of the orchestra of Prince Nicholas Esterházy, a great friend of Haydn, this concerto was discovered in Bohemia in 1961. The work is framed by two monothematic movements, in the style of Vivaldi, while the Adagio shows the twin themes of the sonata form. Among the subtleties of the concerto, the veiled entry of the cello in the last two movements is a technique that Mozart would later develop to perfection.
