Special MYchapel Event: Beeth’OFF & DJ!

December 6th is an event you cannot miss! A particularly young and festive atmosphere will fill the building of Flagey for the closing evening of the Beethoven festival. Before the concert a game show, by the musicologist and Belgian conductor David Ramaël, will be a fun way to understand the influences of Beethoven on contemporary music.  For this music quizz,  Beethoven’s pieces of music will be played by a DJ. It’s a nice opportunity to mix Music Chapel soloists, the concert and the DJ.The lucky winners of this quizz will receive a MyChapel subscription!

After the game, you will appreciate the Concerto No.5 “Emperor”, op.73, as well as the Symphony No.3 “Eroica”, op.55 of L. van Beethoven, performed by Julien Brocal and the Brussels Philharmonic under the direction of Michel Tabachnik.

Then the evening carries on with electro music, mixed by a DJ. During the evening free beers will be given.

  • For MYChapel the price of the evening is only 10 €.

Brussels Philharmonic

Brussels Philharmonic was established in 1935 under the aegis of the public broadcasting network (NIR). The orchestra has performed with leading conductors and soloists and has created new works by world-famous composers such as Stravinsky, Messiaen and Francesconi. Brussels Philharmonic and music director Michel Tabachnik are at home in Brussels, both in Flagey, where it rehearses, and in BOZAR. In addition, the orchestra is at home at major venues in Flanders. On the international scene, the orchestra has a residency at the Cité de la musique (Paris), is invited by festivals in Strasbourg and Besançon, and has regular concerts in Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), London, Venice, Berlin, Salzburg (Grosses Festspielhaus) and Vienna (Musikverein). The extensive internationally recognized experience of the orchestra in film music includes Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Aviator’, and more recently the Oscar winning silent movie ‘The Artist’. Brussels Philharmonic is supported by the Flemish Community.

Michel Tabachnik, direction

As Music Director, Michel Tabachnik has been a key figure in the work of Brussels Philharmonic since 2008. His idiosyncratic yet highly accessible programmes, in which the great orchestral repertoire is combined with music from the 20th century, are reaching an ever bigger and wider audience. Together with the orchestra, Tabachnik is also consolidating the sound international reputation built up over the past few years. Michel Tabachnik studied piano, composition and conducting in Geneva. After his studies, he was coached by a number of iconic conductors: he was Igor Markevitsj’s assistant and acted for four years as assistant conductor of Pierre Boulez (in London). After this Herbert von Karajan invited him to conduct his orchestra in Berlin for a number of years.

Julien Brocal, piano

Poetry, spontaneity, restraint, and a profound sense of structure and awareness of sound are rare qualities that he displays.” Maria-João Pires

Julien trained with Erik Berchot at the National Regional Conservatory of Marseille and with Rena Shereshevskaya at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot, where he unanimously won the prestigious concert artist diploma. He received support from the Zaleski Foundation, the Assophie Association and the Safran Foundation during his training. He has been invited on France Musique by Gaëlle le Gallic, and to a number of festivals in France. Julien has performed regularly in France and elsewhere from an early age. He was discovered by Maria-João Pires in a masterclass at the Cité de la Musique in Paris in January 2013, who invited him to pursue advanced study at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel under her direction.
