Christiane Gleis, German coach

Christiane Gleis completed her translation studies (German-French-English) at ISTI in Brussels. Upon graduation she worked for several years as a freelance translator, working among others on several books on psychology published by Marabout, exhibition catalogues for Bozar, poetry, libretti and film scenarios and subtitles for films from Belgium and Luxembourg.

Since 1987 she has taught German diction and literature for singers at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and since 2011 at the Institut supérieur de musique et de pédagogie of Namur. Since 2010 she has been the German-language coach at the International Opera Academy (formerly Flanders Operastudio) and since September 2014 at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.

She has developed an original topic- and project-related method of teaching German to singing students, and has become an expert on German romanticism and the German Lied.

She has acted as translator, dramatist and language coach on many projects.
