Paula Cossin

mezzo-soprano

Born in Narbonne, Franco-German mezzo-soprano Paula Cossin began playing the piano at five before gradually turning to singing. At the Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique du Grand Narbonne, she joined its youth choir and many other choirs, and began studying classical voice in 2015. She continued her training from 2020 at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Toulouse, earning her diplôme d’études musicales in 2026. Alongside her vocal studies, she studied music and musicology at the Université Toulouse – Jean Jaurès, graduating in 2023.

She began working with voice teacher Didier Laclau-Barrère in 2024 and attended the 2023, 2024 and 2025 summer sessions of the Académie internationale de musique française Michel Plasson.

In May 2026, she made her debut as Rosine in Le Bus Figaro, an adaptation of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia produced by the Opéra national du Capitole de Toulouse. Her other roles include Casta in Tomás Bretón’s La verbena de la Paloma in 2026; the Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Festival Les Musicales de Castelnaudary in 2025; the second cousin in Offenbach’s La Périchole in 2024; and Diane in his Orphée aux enfers at the Nuits Musicales en Armagnac in 2026.

She has also sung the alto solos in Bach’s cantatas BWV 17, 149, 169 and 100 on several occasions as part of the Ensemble Baroque de Toulouse’s Cantates sans filet series. With the theatre company Hecho en Casa, she has created new roles and taken over existing ones as an actress, notably in its production of B.A.K. in 2023. Her theatre work shapes both her view of opera and her approach to performing.

In September 2026, Paula Cossin joins the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel as an Artist in residence, under the direction of Sophie Koch and Stéphane Degout.
