Jozefien Dumortier

Jozefien Dumortier is a Belgian violinist and violist. Since October 2024, she’s assistant principal viola at the Residentie-Orkest in The Hague.

In 2022, she obtained a master’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the class of Maria Milstein and Sven Arne Tepl. Before, she has studied with Marc Danel (Quatuor Danel), Lei Wang and Marc Tooten. Since 2022, she is Artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in the class of Miguel da Silva.

In 2015, she won the Rotary Culture Prize (Kortrijk).

Jozefien has performed alongside musicians such as Lukas Vondracek, Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden, Yossif Ivanov, Lorenzo Gatto, Lucas Debargue, Philippe Graffin and Ori Epstein.

She performed at several international festivals such as Stavanger Chamber Music Festival, Encuentro de Música y Academia de Santander, Davos Festival and Zermatt Music Festival &Academy (with the Sharoun-ensemble of Berliner Philharmoniker).

Until now, she has taken viola masterclasses with Nobuko Imai, Hartman Rohde, Garfield Jackson, Wilfred Strehle and Atar Arad and violin masterclasses with (among others) Philippe Graffin, Henry Raudales, Sigiswald Kuijken, Alessandro Moccia, Karen Aroutiouniaten and Robert Szreder.

She was a member of the EUYO (European Union Youth Orchestra) from 2019-2021, Young Belgian Strings’ from 2018-2020 and Youth Orchestra Flanders in 2019.
