Jozefien Dumortier

Jozefien Dumortier is a Belgian violinist and violist. In 2021-2022, she was principal violist of the ‘Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest’ (Amsterdam).

In 2022, she obtained a master’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the class of Maria Milstein (Van Baerle Trio) and Sven Arne Tepl (Artistic director Residentie Orkest The Hague). Before, she has studied with Marc Danel (Quatuor Danel), Lei Wang (Philharmonie Zuid Nederland) and Marc Tooten (Hermes ensemble). Since 2022, she is studying viola at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (Waterloo) in the class of Miguel da Silva.

In 2015, she won the Rotary Culture Prize (Kortrijk).

Jozefien has performed alongside musicians such as Lukas Vondracek, Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden, Yossif Ivanov, Lorenzo Gatto, Lucas Debargue, Philippe Graffin and Ori Epstein.

In 2023, she performed at Stavanger Chamber Music Festival, Encuentro de Música y Academia de Santander and Davos Festival.

Until now, she has taken viola masterclasses with Nobuko Imai, Garfield Jackson and Atar Arad and violin masterclasses with (among others) Philippe Graffin, Henry Raudales, Sigiswald Kuijken, Alessandro Moccia, Karen Aroutiouniaten and Robert Szreder.

She was a member of the EUYO (European Union Youth Orchestra) from 2019-2021, Young Belgian Strings’ (Dirk Van de Moortel) from 2018-2020 and ‘La Camerata’ (Namur) and Youth Orchestra Flanders in 2019.
