E. Chausson: Quartet for piano & strings, in A major, op. 30

The Chanson perpétuelle shows Chausson’s stylistic evolution towards a subtle harmonic language with great clarity of expression. This long melody is built around the main theme that reappears in all five parts, like the bruised heart abandoned by the beloved
abandoned by the loved one who sinks into the abyss of despair.
