“Set apart by 100 years, Chopin’s Cello Sonata (1848) and Carter’s Cello Sonata (1948) both share the idea of transformation. A melody that is introduced at the beginning reappears throughout both pieces, revisiting the familiar, offering a different perspective. Similarly, Jung’s piece offers a different interpretation of the familiar. I am especially excited to present this piece as it is my first project where I commissioned a composer and collaborated intensely to explore Korean folk stories with classical music. “Music begins where words fail,” said the poet Heinrich Heine, and I am truly grateful to speak this universal language and building cultural bridges without borders.”
