APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The application process for the 26–27 auditions is now closed.
All useful information for candidates admitted to the cello auditions is provided below.

1. Deadline: 30.11.2025

2. Repertoire requirements:

• Prelude from any suite of Bach
• 1st movement of one of the following works:
  • Dvorak concerto (long tuttis must be cut)
  • Schumann concerto (long tuttis must be cut)
  • Lalo concerto
  • Brahms sonata #2
  • Chopin sonata
  • Beethoven sonata #3
    Or one of the following works:
  • Bloch Schelomo until rehearsal figure 30 in the Schirmer score (long tuttis must be cut)
  • Elgar concerto movements 1 and 2
  • Tchaikovsky Variations on a Rococo Theme:
    • Original version: beginning to end of variation 4
    • Fitzenhagen version: theme, var. 1, var.2, cadenza, var. 6, var. 7

3. Application fee

150€
Due when submitting the application.

LIVE-AUDITION PROCEDURE

Live Auditions will be held for selected candidates only. The cello audition is in two rounds.

1. Date: February 5th 2026 at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo, Belgium
2. Repertoire requirements:
   Not the same piece as for the pre-selection video!
   The jury will select several parts on the day of the audition:

• 1st movement of either
  Haydn Cello concertos, CPE Bach Cello concerto, Boccherini Cello concertos
• One of the following works (complete)
  • Beethoven sonatas
  • Brahms sonatas
  • Chopin sonatas
  • Schubert “Arpeggione”
  • Schumann “Five Pieces”
  • Stravinsky “Suite Italienne”
  • Magnard sonata
  • Prokofiev sonata
  • Poulenc sonata
  • Mendelssohn op.45
  • Mendelssohn op.58
• One complete work (all movements) from the following list :
  • Dvorak concerto
  • Elgar concerto
  • Schumann concerto
  • Lalo concerto
  • Bloch Schelomo
  • Tchaikovsky Variations on a Rococo Theme
  • Shostakovich #1 or #2
  • Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante
  • Walton Cello concerto
  • Dohnanyi Konzertstuck

QUALIFICATION

• The audition is open to musicians of any nationality.
• Age limit: 27 years old or younger on the day of the audition
