Stéphanie Huang, cello

Winner of the Grand Prize at the 2015 Suggia International Cello Competition in Porto, the First Prize of the 2021 Società Umanitaria International Competition in Milan, named ADAMI Classical Revelation 2021 in France and a winner of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium where she also won the two Audience Prizes (the Canvas-Klara Prize and the Musiq3 Prize), Stéphanie Huang “won the hearts of the audience with her committed and moving performances; a rounded and passionate musician” (Le Soir, 2022).

Stéphanie Huang performs regularly in the concertante repertoire (Haydn, Dvorák, Elgar, Tchaikovsky, etc.) with various orchestras (Orchestre National de Belgique, Brussels Philharmonic, Kamerfilharmonie van Vlaanderen, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Musica, etc.) under the direction of conductors such as M. Sanderling, C. Izcaray and V. Mardirossian. She also gives recitals and has played in chamber music ensembles at many national and international festivals (Festival de Deauville; Festival des Midis-Minimes in Belgium; Festival Seiji Ozawa in Matsumoto, Japan; Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo, Monaco; Festival international de musique de chambre de Schiermonnikoog, the Netherlands; Festival of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, Belgium etc.).

Stéphanie Huang has collaborated with artists such as Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden, Gary Hoffman, Renaud Capuçon, Claire Désert, Laurent Korcia… She recently performed at the ADAMI Festival in Villefavard, at the Festival of La Roque d’Anthéron, at the Musicorum in Brussels, at the Festival Jeunes Talents in Paris, at the Victoria Hall in Geneva, at the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels, and more. In January 2022 she was invited by French violinist Renaud Capuçon to take part in the TV show L’Essentiel chez Labro. She was also interviewed by Musiq3/RTBF as one of the seven artists of the Belgian Music Week.

Born into a family of musicians, Stéphanie Huang started playing the cello at a very young age. She won a First Prize at the Dexia Competition and made her debut at the age of 12 at La Monnaie/De Munt in Brussels in Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme. She obtained her bachelor’s degree at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels with Jeroen Reuling and her master’s degree in cello, her master’s degree in chamber music and her Artist/Performer Diploma at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris with Marc Coppey and Emmanuelle Bertrand, where she received many awards (Spes, Meyer, Kriegelstein, Safran Foundations)

Stéphanie Huang has been artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel since 2020 where she studies with Gary Hoffman.

She plays a 1742 Francesco Stradivarius cello generously loaned by the Guttman Collection.
