If you don’t already know Claire Oppert, we invite you to come and meet her on Wednesday 5 February at 7.30pm in the Chapelle Musicale and read her book ‘Le pansement Schubert’, published by Denoël.
After a degree in philosophy and training at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Claire Oppert decided to take a university diploma in art therapy. During this, she carried out a clinical study on patients at the Sainte Périne hospital in Paris. Working alongside the nursing team, she performed for patients in the palliative care unit. The head of the department concluded that ten minutes of Schubert was equivalent to five milligrams of oxynorm, a powerful analgesic.
‘The ‘Schubert Bandage’ is about reducing pain through the beneficial impact of music. It’s something that goes back to the beginnings of humanity.’
‘Live music can make eyes open, hands relax, tears flow and give a little hope.’
All proceeds from the evening conference/concert will go towards organising concerts in palliative care with our young Artists in Residence.
