Manuel Vioque – Judde, viola

Born in France in 1991, Manuel Vioque-Judde is currently one of the most promising violists of his generation. The laureate of many international prizes, he has won prizes at the two most prestigious viola competitions, winning second prize and the special prize for the best sonata at the 14th Primrose competition in Los Angeles in 2014, and second prize at the Tertis Competition on the Isle of Man in 2016. At home in both concertos and chamber music, he has been invited by many orchestras in France, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, the US and Venezuela, and has performed on the most prestigious stages.

In 2015 he released his first CD, Viola Reflections, in the Jeune Soliste series of the Meyer Foundation: it was acclaimed by critics as ‘a wonderful recording of English music’. His musical training began in Paris at age 5 with piano and the viola, but also with the study of song at Maîtrise de Radio France. After studying at the Conservatoire de Paris he continued his training under the violists A. Tamestit, N. Imai, T. Masurenko, T. Zimmermann and L. Power. Every summer he attends the Seiji Ozawa International Academy of Switzerland.

In 2017 he was named a laureate of the Fondation Banque Populaire and an Adami classical revelation.

Since 2017, Manuel is artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. He plays a viola Charles Coquet, generously on loan by the Music Chapel.
