Marie Ducroux, viola

Marie Ducroux is nominated ‘Talent Adami Classique 2024’.

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in viola (with committee praise) at the CNSMP, under Sabine Toutain and Christophe Gaugué, she obtained a master’s degree in June 2023 (with the highest honours) under Lise Berthaud and Adrien Lamarca.

In 2018, she won first prize at the National Young Violists Competition. In 2019, she performed with the Verbier Festival Orchestra as solo viola, under the direction of Valery Gergiev. From 2020 to 2022, she was a member of the Paris Opera Academy, under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel.

Since 2021, she has performed regularly as a chamber musician with artists such as Bruno Philipe, Geneviève Laurenceaux, François Salques, Gabriel Pidoux, Quatuor Arod, Quatuor Akilone, Joë Chirstophe, Iris Daverio, Jeremy Garbarg, Rodolphe Menguy, Caroline Sypniewski, Sarah Jegou, Iris Scialom, Frédéric Laroque, and Aurélien Sabouret, among others.

Alexandre Tharaud describes her as follows: ‘Her curiosity, human qualities, and keen listening skills make her a highly regarded and sought-after chamber music partner’; and, according to Alexander Neef, General Director of the Paris Opera: ‘her virtuosity and listening skills make her an accomplished musician’.

Marie is a prize-winner of the Fondation Signature-Institut de France, the Fondation Meyer, and the Ute & Patrick Petit grant.

She plays on a viola by Giovanni Pistucci, made in Naples in 1890.

Since September 2024, Marie is Artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in the class of Miguel de Silva.
