Jingzhi Zhang, violin
Violinist Jingzhi Zhang has performed in prestigious venues across Europe and Asia as a soloist and chamber musician. She received second prize and the audience prize at the Premio Paganini 2023. As a soloist, she has collaborated with leading orchestras including the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana (OSI), the Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, the National Symphony Orchestra of China, the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, the Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Moscow, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali and I Virtuosi Italiani.
Born in Chongqing, China, Jingzhi began playing the violin with her parents at the age of four. Three years later, she made her debut with the National Symphony Orchestra in Beijing. She went on to study with Pavel Berman at the Accademia Perosi and at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, where she completed a Master of Arts in Music Performance. After graduating, she joined the class of Augustin Dumay at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
She is the overall winner of the Concorso Internazionale Andrea Postacchini (2010), winner of the International Balys Dvarionas Competition for Young Pianists and Violinists (2016) and Premio Nazionale delle Arti (2019), and laureate of the Vienna International Classic Strings Competition (2019).
A devoted chamber musician, Jingzhi is a founding member of Quartetto Goldberg, winner of the Critics’ Prize “Piero Farulli – Best Italian Rising Ensemble”, first prize at the Filippo Nicosia Chamber Music Award and the special prize “Una Vita nella Musica Giovani” from Teatro La Fenice in Venice. Recognized on the international stage for its artistic discipline, rigorous work ethic and passionate interpretative spirit, the quartet is regularly invited to festivals and music societies including MITO SettembreMusica, Società dei Concerti di Milano, Società dei Concerti di Trieste, Viotti Festival, ProQuartet – Centre Européen de Musique de Chambre, Vibre! – Quatuors à Bordeaux, Crans-Montana Classics, Ticino Musica Festival and Verão Clássico.
Jingzhi currently lives in Milan, Italy. She performs on a 17th-century violin from the Venetian school.
Since September 2024, she and her quartet have been Artists in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, working in the classes of Augustin Dumay, Corina Belcea, Miguel da Silva and Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden.
