Camila Mandillo, soprano

Soprano Camila Mandillo is currently an Artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, under the guidance of Sophie Koch and Stéphane Degout. A graduate of the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees with distinction, supported by a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. She has also received several merit-based awards, including the Deutschlandstipendium, Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V. and Bernbeck Stiftung. Camila began her musical studies at the Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa, where she studied classical singing and guitar. She has deepened her artistic development through masterclasses with renowned singers such as Sabine Devieilhe and José van Dam, and through collaborations with leading musicians including Iestyn Davies and Bernard Foccroulle, amongst others.

Recognized as a prominent voice in contemporary music, Camila performs regularly in chamber music recitals, Lied, opera and contemporary repertoire, distinguished by her versatility and expressive range across genres. Her operatic roles include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Donna Anna and Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Mozart), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Giulia in La scala di seta (Rossini) and Ser I in A Laugh to Cry (Miguel Azguime) – an award-winning opera that has toured internationally since 2022. She has also premiered several contemporary roles, including a production at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

In contemporary music, highlights include Pierre Boulez’s Pli selon pli with the Gulbenkian Orchestra; soloist appearances in ENOA’s Composing for Voices and Orchestra workshops with Kaija Saariaho (2023) and Luca Francesconi (2024), also with the Gulbenkian Orchestra; representing Portugal at Art’s Birthday – Euroradio Ars Acustica 2023, broadcast live internationally; opening the 2024 Música Viva Festival with Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabrealongside the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa; and performing Hans Vercauteren’s Reinaert Fantasie at the 2025 Antwerp Spring Festival with the Orchestre National de Lille. She was featured as one of the main performers at the World New Music Days 2025 in Lisbon, with particular prominence in the opening concert alongside the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa.

Following a joint nomination by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Casa da Música and BOZAR, Camila was selected by the ECHO network as one of its six Rising Stars for the 2026–2027 season, with a tour across some of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls.

Camila has been an Artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel since September 2024.
