Anna Sypniewski, viola
A young violist from Toulouse, Anna Sypniewski began studying the viola with Valérie Apparailly before entering the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris in 2016, where she joined Jean Sulem’s class. She subsequently continued her training abroad with violist Tatjana Masurenko in Leipzig and at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, and later at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel under the guidance of Miguel da Silva. Anna has taken part in prestigious international academies such as the Verbier Festival Academy and the Villecroze Music Academy, where she worked with distinguished artists including Lawrence Power, Antoine Tamestit and Nobuko Imai. She is a laureate of the Fondation Gautier Capuçon and is supported by the Fondation Safran. At the age of fifteen, she won First Prize at the Concours National des Jeunes Altistes, and was awarded the Prix de la Ville de Ciboure and the Grand Prix of the Académie Ravel.
A dedicated chamber musician, Anna is regularly invited to perform at festivals and venues in France and internationally, appearing alongside musicians of her generation as well as established artists. Her engagements include the Août musical de Deauville, Festival du Périgord Noir, Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, La Folle Journée de Nantes, the Menton Music Festival, Schloss Elmau, the Consulat général de France à New York, the Ohrid Summer Festival (North Macedonia), Salle Cortot in Paris and Wigmore Hall in London.
She performs with her two sisters, Caroline (cello) and Magdalena (violin), in the Sypniewski Trio. Having met at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris in 2016, they decided to pursue chamber music together and have since deepened their collaboration over the years (notably at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, in the class of Günter Pichler), alongside their individual careers. Their repertoire spans from the seventeenth century to contemporary music, exploring the richness of the string trio across styles and periods. Their debut album Origines is to be released in spring 2025 on the Aparté label. The Sypniewski Trio is in residence at the Fondation Singer-Polignac.
Anna plays a 1750 viola by Ferdinando Alberti, kindly on loan from the Fondation Boubo-Music.
Since September 2024, Anna has been an Artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, under the guidance of Miguel da Silva.
