Anna Sypniewski, viola

A young violist from Toulouse, Anna Sypniewski began studying viola under Valérie Apparailly before entering Jean Sulem’s class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in 2016. She perfected her skills abroad under violist Tatjana Masurenko in Leipzig, Germany, and at the Colburn School in Los Angeles.

Anna won 1st Prize at the National Competition for Young Violists in France at the age of 15, was awarded the Prix de la ville de Ciboure and the Grand Prix de l’Académie Ravel.

Selected to take part in the prestigious Verbier Festival Academy and the Music Academy of Villecroze, she was mentored by such great masters as Lawrence Power, Antoine Tamestit, Nobuko Imai and Miguel da Silva. Anna is a laureate of the Safran Foundation and the Fondation Gautier Capuçon, which has given her the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie.

A keen chamber musician, she has been invited to perform in many festivals in France and abroad: Menton Music Festival, Jeudis musicaux de Royan, Festival Périgord Noir, Août musical de Deauville, La Folle Nuit de Nîmes, Schlöss Elmau in Germany, the French Consulate in New York, etc. She has performed on stage with such experienced musicians as François Salque, Alexandre Kantorow, Gautier Capuçon, Marc Coppey and Pierre Fouchenneret.

Anna is a member of the Katok Ensemble, where she performs the string quartet and quintet repertoire, and of the Sypniewski Trio, founded in 2016 with her two sisters. They perform the string trio repertoire, from the eighteenth century to contemporary creations.

The Sypniewski Trio is artist in residence at the Fondation Singer-Polignac.

Since September 2024, Anna is Artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, in the class of Miguel da Silva.
