Abel Hox, piano

Abel Hox, born in the Netherlands in 1998, began learning the piano at the age of eight with lessons from his father. At thirteen, he entered the Royal Conservatory of The Hague to study with Kamilla Bystrova and Ellen Corver. There he worked on the standard repertoire as well as a wide range of contemporary music, which has always fascinated him. He also completed a bachelor programme in pedagogy. In 2022 he graduated summa cum laude.

He has performed in major venues across the Netherlands, including the Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, De Doelen, and Amare. Internationally, he has taken part in festivals such as Beethovenfest Bonn, the International Music Festival Koblenz, Foundation “Piano piano,” and the Schiermonnikoog Chamber Music Festival.

Abel’s musical education has been enriched by lessons and masterclasses with esteemed musicians such as Naum Grubert, Mikhail Khokhlov, Boris Petrushansky, Igor Roma, Severin von Eckardstein, Ronald Brautigam, and Richard Egarr. Since 2022, he has been continuing his studies at the Accademia Pianistica di Imola in Italy with Enrico Pace and Andrea Gallo.

In addition to his solo performances, Abel is also active as a chamber musician. He regularly performs with his own piano trio, appreciating the collaborative dimension of music-making. Playing with other musicians has long been an essential part of his artistic identity.

Abel’s dedication to both solo and chamber music highlights his versatile approach to piano performance. He values the opportunity to explore a broad range of musical styles and settings, with a particular fondness for the music of Bach and Beethoven. Outside of music, Abel enjoys spending time outdoors, especially cycling and occasional rock climbing.

Abel is supported by a scholarship from the Clara Haskil Fund.

Since September 2024, Abel has been an Artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, studying with Frank Braley and Avedis Kouyoumdjian.
