Trio Theros

Bringing together three of the leading Nordic musicians of their generation, Trio Theros unites violinist Anna Agafia, cellist Jonathan Swensen and pianist Gustav Piekut in an ensemble defined by intensity, individuality and close musical exchange. Formed in 2018, the trio grew from a shared artistic curiosity and a desire to approach the piano trio repertoire as a true meeting of strong musical personalities rather than a blending of roles.

Alongside flourishing international solo careers, the three musicians cultivate a chamber music partnership marked by immediacy, clarity and expressive tension. Their performances balance virtuosity with attentive awareness, allowing contrasting musical voices to shape a shared narrative in real time and creating interpretations that feel both spontaneous and structurally grounded.

Anna Agafia has gained international recognition through major competition prizes and appearances with orchestras across Europe and beyond, while Jonathan Swensen, recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant and First Prize at the Naumburg International Cello Competition, appears regularly as soloist and chamber musician on both sides of the Atlantic. Pianist Gustav Piekut, praised for combining technical precision with poetic expression, performs widely as concerto soloist and recording artist. Together, their individual artistic profiles form the foundation of a collaborative sound distinguished by clarity, energy and presence.

For the 2025–2026 season, Trio Theros has been appointed Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, reflecting the ensemble’s growing international recognition and artistic development.
