De tous les compositeurs, Jean-Sébastien Bach est celui qui a été le plus repris, transcrit
et arrangé de différentes manières, et ceci déjà par lui-même. A cet égard, le concerto pour hautbois et violon reconstitué et le concerto pour deux violons sont des exemples tout à fait intéressants. Bach a aussi énormément inspiré Mendelssohn, notamment dans ce double concerto, oeuvre de jeunesse.
