Jian Wang is een Chinese cellist, geboren in 1968. Hij is solist, kamermusicus, performer en docent en is de eerste Chinese musicus die een exclusief contract heeft getekend met Deutsche Grammophon. Hij begon op vierjarige leeftijd bij zijn vader te studeren. Tijdens zijn studie aan het Conservatorium van Shanghai was hij het onderwerp van de Oscarwinnende documentaire “From Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China”. In 1981 maakte hij zijn professionele debuut met het spelen van Saint-Saëns’ Celloconcert nr. 1 met het Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. In 1985 ging hij in het kader van een speciaal programma naar de Yale School of Music, waar hij studeerde bij Aldo Parisot. Tegenwoordig treedt hij op met ‘s werelds meest vooraanstaande orkesten en staat hij bekend om zijn expressieve interpretatie en virtuoze techniek.
