Samuel Van de Velde

Samuel Van de Velde was born in Belsele on 23 January 1998 as the youngest son in a family of four musical brothers.  Like his brothers, he started playing the piano when he was six. His father, who teaches at the Music Academy in Sint-Niklaas, was his first teacher. It soon became clear that he had an above-average talent and Samuel did very well in various competitions.  For instance, he came first in Cantabile, Jonge Solisten aan Zee (Young Soloists at the Coast), and Cavatine in Namur. Only recently he came first again for the second time in the middle grade of Cantabile. There he followed masterclasses with Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden and Dimitri Bashkirov. In 2010 he was invited to appear as a soloist with a symphony orchestra in a concerto by Mozart and he will shortly perform Shostakovitch’s piano concerto. Apart from playing the piano, Samuel also plays chamber music, often together with his brothers. Since 2009, he is studying at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel under the direction of Abdel Rahman El Bacha.
