De zogenaamde ‘Brandenburgse’ concerto’s bevatten een opdracht van de hand van
Bach zelf in zijn beste Frans aan de Markgraaf van Brandenburg. Hij stuurt hem zes
concerti grossi die hij verenigt, ondanks hun vormelijke diversiteit. Nummers 3 en 6 zijn
gewijd aan de strijkers, die hij laat dansen in een koortsachtige en heldere beweging.
De Mendelssohn van het trio straalt evenzeer. Een zachtheid, zowel elegisch als subtiel,
laat de strijkers zingen, rond een beslist romantische piano, bijna schumanniaans.
