Jonathan Fournel, piano

Jonathan Fournel began his music studies at the Conservatoire of Sarreguemines before entering the Conservatoire of Strasbourg. In 2006 he was admitted to the Musikhochschule of Saarbrücken where he studied under the tutelage of R. Leonardy; at the same time, he studied under G. Magnan. After seven years at the Conservatoire of Paris in the classes of B. Rigutto, B. Engerer, C. Désert and M. Dalberto, he graduated with a master’s degree in 2015 and a performer’s diploma two years later. Since 2013 he has won first prize at the G.B. Viotti Competition in Vercelli, Italy and at the Scottish International Piano Competition in Glasgow.

He has been called on to appear in several major programs and has had the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Orchestre National de Lorraine, the Zagreb Radio-Television Orchestra, the Zilina Chamber Orchestra, the Jiangsu Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, the Virtuosis Pragensis Ensemble, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfonia Varsovia and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, under the direction of F. Braley, N. Giuliani, J. Heyward, L. Kuokman, É. Ledenhandler, G. Madaras, J. Mercier, P. Oundjian, F. Tao, M. Tarbuk and J-F. Verdier.

Since september 2016, Jonathan has been artist in residence at the Music Chapel under the direction of Louis Lortie.

In 2021, Jonathan Fournel wins the Queen Elisabeth Competition Piano (the International Queen Elisabeth Grand Prize – Queen Mathilde Prize, the Public Prize of Musiq3 and the Canvas-Klara Prize)).
