Francisco Vila, cello
Ecuadorian-Spanish cellist Francisco Vila is one of today´s emerging talents. The Strad Magazine said that “Vila brought out the fervour and vitality…boldly emphasizing attack and consummate projection.” Concert activities have taken him to such venues as Zankel Hall and Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Kimmel Center, Disney Hall, Harvard University, Bozar and Flagey in Brussels as soloist with the Liège Royal Philharmonic and Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia. He has chamber music collaborations with Nobuko Imai, Zakhar Bron, Lynn Chang, Gary Hoffman, Wolfram Christ and others. Francisco Vila was a top laureate at the 15th Annual Sphinx Competition. Upcoming activities include a 2014 tour of Japan with Nobuko Imai and appearances with Macondo Chamber Players in South America. He plays a 1790 Vincenzo Panormo cello on generous loan from the Saul B. and Naomi R. Cohen Foundation. Since 2011 he has been studying at the Music Chapel under the direction of Gary Hoffman. For 2013-2014, he received a scholarship from Mr & Mrs Guy Reyniers.
