On Thursday, February 10, the Adorno Quartet, accompanied by Miguel da Silva and the artists in residence of the Music Chapel, performed Mozart’s String Quintet KV. 516 and Enescu’s Octet for the audience of the Chapel.

At just 19 years of age, Enescu rose to the level of Mendelssohn with his Octet, a true masterpiece of great formal complexity. Nine cleverly arranged themes emerge from this monumental structure. The composer’s stated aim was that the four movements of the work succeed each another in such a way as to create the first movement of a symphony – in other words, one gigantic sonata form.

The Octet and the Quintet are now available for replay on our Youtube channel!
