The four musicians of the Libra Quartet met in 2019 at the Académie Ravel in St-Jean-de-Luz. Magdalena Geka, violinist, Elia Cohen-Weissert, cellist and Hortense Fourrier, violist, received a Special Prize from the Academy for their outstanding performance of Philippe Manoury’s string trio Gestes, with whom they had the honour of working. Thanks to this prize, they were invited to perform at the Festival des Ravéliades. In the autumn of 2020, the trio gave a programme uniting Bach and Schubert during a tour of Normandy.
From their friendship with pianist Josquin Otal, the Libra Quartet was born, and they have already been able to receive advice from renowned performers such as Miguel Da Silva and Avedis Kouyoumdjian. Although the emblematic works of their group (Brahms, Mozart, Fauré) form the basis of their repertoire, the Libra Quartet wishes to discover lesser-known works. In this respect, the Turina Quartet, the early works of Bartók, Mendelssohn, Lekeu and the Quartets of Mel Bonis are of particular interest to them.
In September 2021, they will become Artists in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
