| Contrary to popular belief, at the opera, we have always loved to laugh, laugh, and laugh. And then, again contrary to popular belief, there is more than the tenor/soprano couple in life. |
| In France, at the end of the 19th century, the lyrical comic production is vast: one laughs a little with the opéra-comique, a lot with the opéra-bouffe, and soon quite a bit with the operetta. |
| The purpose of this program is not to historically trace the history of these genres, nor even to compare them, but rather to explore the comic possibilities that these have to offer us. |
