For Florence Price, America was the promised land. In 1933, she became the first African-American woman to have her music performed by an orchestra. America is also the country where minimalist music was born, of which Philip Glass is one of the most important representatives. In his Third Piano Concerto, the repetition of phrases and their progressive modulation create a musical flow in which repetition and alteration merge.
