Piano Sonata No. 25, in G major, op. 79

Piano Sonata No. 27, in e minor, op. 90

Ten years lie between the 24th sonata, entitled ‘Für Therese‘ (1809) and the 29th sonata, ‘Hammerklavier‘ (1817-19). Ten of the most difficult years in the life of Beethoven who goes through major depressive phases, partly due to problems with his brother Johann, and then the illness and death of his brother Caspar Carl, and of course his ever declining deafness, which becomes total in 1818. Nevertheless, as during the great crisis of 1802 and his Saints’ Testament, Beethoven is reborn through musical creation.
