The concertos for several keyboards are works of recycling, for the most part.
With very little time to compose at the time to compose at that time, Bach preferred to
preferred to take up previous works for his harpsichord students. Only the Concerto
for two keyboards in C major, BWV.1061 could be an original. As for the famous Concerto for four harpsichords, it is a transcription of the concerto for four violins by Vivaldi.
Its sparkling energy and sumptuous polyphony make it a true masterpiece, unique in its kind.
