Benjamin Schilperoort, bariton

Benjamin Schilperoort began singing during his History degree at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and later studied for a Masters at the Royal Academy of Music. Benjamin has studied with Nuccia Focile and Russell Smythe, and performed in public masterclasses led by Thomas Allen, Malcolm Martineau and Chen Reiss. Having commenced his stage training with the National Youth Theatre, Benjamin’s recent operatic roles include Golaud (Opera on the Move), Colline (Opera Brava), Fiorello (Opera Brava), Il Commendatore (for Royal Academy Opera), cover of Masetto (for British Youth Opera), Seneca L’Incoronazione di Poppea (for Hampstead Garden Opera), and he has performed scenes as Don Alfonso, Figaro Le Nozze di Figaro, Méphistophélès Faust and Re di Scozia Ariodante. Benjamin is also dedicated to the performance of song repertoire, and has performed in Wigmore Hall and at Leeds Lieder Festival. On the concert platform, he has given recitals across Europe, and performed as a soloist in the prestigious Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series under Philippe Herreweghe and Ton Koopman. In addition to his performing career, Benjamin is in high demand as a vocal teacher, and gives regular masterclasses for young singers.

In September 2019 he is artist in residence  at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel under the guidance of José van Dam & Sophie Koch.
